When Steve Cathcart read about a Denver photographer who
defrauded several newlywed couples for whom he was supposed to shoot wedding photos, they
were incensed.
"They can take a lot of things from you, but when they take your
wedding photos, thats hitting below the belt," says Steve Cathcart, a
professional photographer for more than 20 years. "When people run out of a burning
house, what do they grab? They grab their photos. Theyre valuable things, and these
people got cheated."
"Through his act of kindness, we all regained a sense of
trust", says Paula Dickerson and her husband Kevin Dickerson of Thorton Colorado. He
re-created a wedding for us and gave us memories to keep.
Local Photographer Steve Cathcart Turns
Wedding Negatives Into Positives
The six brides were cheated by a fake photographer in the Denver Metro area. Steve read
about the scam in a Denver newspaper and contacted local merchants in Estes Park to
package a free weekend for the six couples. They received free wedding photography, tuxes,
flowers, limo, beautician services, suites at the Holiday Inn, wedding reception, music,
and a local judge renewed their vows. Steve received national recognition for his acts of
kindness. The incident was featured on Inside Edition. It aired on The Montel
Williams show September 13, 1996.
